The Ounce of Prevention Fund of Florida and Florida State University Athletics have partnered with the Scholastic Book Fair Company to help at-risk children and their teachers in grades K-8.

"The Ounce of Prevention Fund believes in promoting literacy and helping disadvantaged youth have equal access to quality educational materials," said Winnie Heggins, Vice President and Director of Program Administration for the Ounce of Prevention Fund.

Students at Bond Elementary and Griffin Middle School will attend a lively reading event and 300 students will receive gift certificates to purchase books at each of the school's Scholastic Book Fairs.

FSU student-athletes spent time with the elementary and middle school students and helped them select the books to purchase. These Book Fair purchases also contributed additional funds to the school so teachers can obtain supplies and equipment needed to supplement the school and classroom libraries.
