TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - With each passing day of competition the Florida State track and field keeps adding to its warchest of NCAA East Regional qualifying marks. The Seminoles added four new marks and improved on one with athletes at the Texas, Florida and Stanford Relays on Saturday (April 5).

"We got some things done this weekend, but we've got a ways to go," FSU head coach Bob Braman said. "We've got a long ways to go in order to three-peat. We've got to get guys healthy, at the same time, and we need to get Walt (Dix) back."

Four of the five marks were turned in at the 81st Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays. Leading the way was freshman sensation Kim Williams (Kingston, Jamaica) as she leaped 13.65 (44-09.50) in the triple jump - the best jump during the collegiate outdoor season - to win the event with a regional mark.

In addition to Williams, Florida State recorded three more regional marks at the 81st Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays. NCAA Indoor 60m hurdle champion Drew Brunson (Snellville, Ga.) posted the second-fastest 110m hurdle time in the country. He ran a personal-best 13.61 to win the race. Junior Michael Ray Garvin (Upper Saddle River, N.J.) stamped his name in the regional meet with a season-best 10.33 to take third in the 100m dash.

Brunson and Garvin ran on the 4x100m relay that lowered FSU's season-best time in the event to 39.16 in a third-place effort. Also running in the quartet was Charles Clark (Virginia Beach, Va.) and Brandon Byram (Gallatin, Tenn.). The Seminoles took seventh in the 4x400m relay as the team of Kevin Williams (Kingston, Jamaica), Clark, Pablo Navarrete (Santiago, Chile) and Byram ran a time of 3:10.32.

The Seminoles' distance crew was in action at Stanford. Senior Kirsten Hagen (Blacksburg, Va.) regionally qualified in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 10:48.19 that is the fourth-fastest in school history. Sophomore Pilar McShine (Port-o-Prince, Trinidad & Tobago) just missed qualifying in the 1500m, running at time of 4:28.41.

Inclement weather shortened the Florida Pepsi Relays before its conclusion. Posting a victory in the pole vault was junior Tori Allen (Indianapolis, Ind.) with a top height of 3.65m (11-11.75). Placing third in the event was Liz Mabry (Gulf Breeze, Fla.) at 3.50m (11-05.75). The women's 4x100m relay came in eighth with a time of 45.79.

Florida State got a pair of top five finishes in the men's hammer throw. Senior Matt Wernke (Tallahassee, Fla.) took third with a toss of 57.92m (190-0). Establishing a season-best throw was sophomore Travis Whitfield (Jay, Fla.) with a throw of 55.52m (182-2). Also getting a top five mark was junior Chris White (Jacksonville, Fla.) as he leaped 13.62m (44-08.25) in the triple jump.

The Seminoles are back at home next weekend as they play host to the Seminole Invitational, April 11-12, at Mike Long Track.
