ON DEMERCY: "He's tall and tough anywhere on the court and can hurt a team by finding any means of scoring. He's usually a sure bet from the foul line and can really create problems in the paint, even for much taller opponents," said Jay Adams of the Savannah News...led Norcross to a No. 12 national ranking in the final poll by USA Today as a senior...played in the Georgia Coaches' All-Star game following his senior season...scored eight points in the All-Star game in leading his North Team to an 87-75 victory over the South Team...saw his stock reach the sky after he was named to the All-Star team at the Nike All-American Camp prior to his senior season...was not initially invited to the camp but drove himself to Indianapolis, arrived at the site and waited four hours for his name to be called as an alternate...all he did from there was become one of the top players in the camp...made his national television debut against current Seminole teammate Julian Vaughn as Norcross played Oak Hill on espn2 at Alexander Memorial Coliseum in Atlanta on Dec. 7, 2006...scored six points and added five rebounds in the loss to Oak Hill as Vaughn scored six points and pulled down six rebounds...a member of the always strong Georgia Hurricanes AAU team...was profiled in Sports Illustrated prior to his senior season after a summer in which he exploded as a top-level prospect...an outstanding athlete, he placed second in the high jump (6-2) and second in the long jump (21-8) in the state championship track meet...attacks the basket with an aggressive and athletic style of play...also considered to be a top player on the defensive end of the court.
AT NORCROSS: Graduated from Norcross High School in 2007...averaged 9.4 points, 4.2 assists, 2.8 steals and 1.1 blocked shots in leading Norcross to the Class 5A state championship and the No. 12 national ranking by USA Today newspaper...helped Norcross become one of only nine high school teams in the state of Georgia to win consecutive state titles...with the strength of DeMercy in the starting line-up, Norcross began the season ranked No. 2 nationally in the USA Today poll...Norcross was the No. 1 ranked 5A team in region 7 of the state of Georgia...shot .575 from the field and .324 from 3-point range...made 23 3-point field goals as a senior...led Norcross to a 30-3 overall record and an unblemished 17-0 record in conference play...helped Norcross defeat Centennial, 59-58, for the Class 5A state championship...did not play on the Norcross varsity as a junior in 2006 due to Georgia high school athletic association transfer rules and broke his wrist prior to the spring 2006 evaluation period thus limiting his ability to be seen during the most important of recruiting periods...transferred to Norcross from Greater Atlanta Christian between his sophomore and junior seasons...but because he did not change his address, the Georgia High School Athletic Association ruled him ineligible for varsity competition...averaged a double-double as a member of the J.V. team as a junior...displayed his shooting touch with 17 points on six-of-seven shooting from the field including four-of-four from 3-point range in a victory over Mount Vernon during his senior season...also pulled down his senior season high of 11 rebounds in only 23 minutes of play against Mount Vernon...played with Division I recruits Gani Lawal of Georgia Tech and Tony Meysmith of Oklahoma as a senior at Norcross.
AT GREATER ATLANTA CHRISTIAN: Played his freshman and sophomore seasons at Greater Atlanta Christian...averaged 15 points, six rebounds and five assists as a sophomore...a 13-foot, fall-away jumper with 1.4 seconds left gave Greater Atlanta Christian a 51-49 victory over Lovett (22-8) in a Class AA boys quarterfinal during his sophomore season...helped lead GAC to a 21-9 overall record and a .904 mark in league play.
PERSONAL: Born July 9, 1988...Jordan is the son of Tammy and Jeff DeMercy...his father, Jeff, was a college basketball player at Panhandle State University in Oklahoma and stands a 6-9...selected Florida State over George Mason, Ole Miss, Georgia, Vanderbilt and Auburn.
