2007: All-ACC Honorable Mention, Phil Steele All-ACC Honorable Mention and Miami Herald first team All-Florida as he enjoyed the best season of his career...named to the Ray Guy Watch List as the nation's top collegiate punters...the top returning punter in the ACC...finished 2007 as the 17th-best punter in the NCAA...will be the ninth-best returning punter in the FBS in 2008...averaged a career-high 43.4 yards per punt to mark the second straight season he has averaged more than 40 yards per punt...enters 2008 with a streak of 11 straight games with a punt of 50 yards or better...dropped a career-high 19 punts inside the 20 yard line...helped the Seminoles' defense tremendously as their opponents completed only 17 scoring drives after a Gano punt (29 percent). Those drives averaged almost 69 yards per drive...career-long punt of 64 yards came in the Seminoles' victory over No. 2 Boston College...launched two punts of 60 yards or better (61 and 64 yards) against the Eagles to mark the first time during his career that he had two punts of 60 yards or more during the same game...also had a 63-yard punt versus Kentucky in the Music City Bowl...now has four career punts of 60 yards or better... also a standout kickoff specialist who handled 63 of Florida State's 69 kickoffs during the regular season...totaled 12 touchbacks on 63 kickoffs and did not have a kickoff returned for a touchdown during the season...recorded the longest run by a punter in the Bobby Bowden era when he raced 24 yards versus Clemson on a fake punt.
Sophomore Year (2006): Averaged 40.8 yards per kick as Florida
State's starting punter...recorded 22 touchbacks on 68 kickoffs...did
not have a punt blocked on any of his 67 attempts...ranked ninth in
the ACC and 50th in the nation with his 40.8 yards per punt average...
averaged more than 40 yards per punt in eight of the Seminoles' 13
games...after averaging 37.2 yards on 16 punts in his first three
games, he averaged 43.7 yards on 49 punts in his final nine games of
the season...was under 40 yards per punt in only one of those final
nine games...totaled 11 punts of 50 yards or more with three coming
against Wake Forest and two against Clemson...career-long punt of 63
yards against Wake Forest in the rain...killed 17 of 63 punts (27.0
percent) inside the 20-yard line and with a career-high three inside the
20-yard line against Clemson...multiple kicks inside the 20 to pin the
Seminoles' opponent in six different games including two against
Miami in the season opener...opponents returned 16 punts for an
average of 13.1 yards per return...career-high nine punts for a 44.4
yard per game average in Wake Forest...averaged a career-high 47.5
yards on four punts against Boston College...averaged 38.8 yards on
six punts in the Emerald Bowl in his first appearance in a bowl game as
a punter...kicked off 68 times with 22 (32.4 percent) of those reaching
the endzone for touchbacks...kicked just three punts out of bounds
throughout the entire season...handled all kickoffs except for two
squib kicks by Gary Cismesia against Florida in the regular season
finale.
Freshman Year (2005): The Seminoles' kickoff specialist over the
last six games of his true freshman season...opponents had an average
starting position of their own 24-yard line after his kickoffs...only twice
did an opponent assume possession beyond their own 40-yard line
after one of his kicks...made a touchdown saving solo tackle of
Maryland's Jo Jo Walker at the 38-yard line after a 60-yard return...
totaled five touchbacks in 26 attempts...had two touchbacks in the
ACC Championship against Virginia Tech and two in the Orange Bowl
vs. Penn State.
High School: Graduated from Tate High School in 2005...a first
team USA Today All-American...named a three-star player by
Rivals.com and the nation's third-ranked kicker...played in the
CaliFlorida All-Star game...kicked a 50-yard field goal in the CaliFlorida
game...kicked a state record 65-yard field goal as a senior...during his
senior season he kicked three field goals over 55 yards (57, 64,
65)...had a 67-yard field goal negated by a penalty...36-of-38 kickoffs
were touchbacks...as a punter averaged over 42 yards per kick his
senior year...his high school coach, Charlie Armstrong, is the son of
Florida State's first baseball coach...chose Florida State over Florida,
UCF and Southern Miss.
