Seminole earns tournament victory with straight sets victory against player who ousted him from NCAA singles tournament.

PEORIA, Ill.- Florida State junior Jean-Yves Aubone won his first career professional tournament on Sunday, July, 13 defeating Bryan Koniecko in straight sets 7-6(7), 6-2 at the Peoria Futures in Peoria, Ill.

"I don't think there are words to describe how I'm feeling," Aubone said. "It's unexpected, I was just taking every match day by day and all-of-a-sudden I was serving match point."

The Miami, Fla. native defeated three players he had never beaten before including two of the best collegiate players from 2008. Aubone defeated Georgia's Travis Helgeson in the quarterfinals after losing to the former Bulldog last week in the semifinals of another Futures tournament. Helgeson finished the 2008 season ranked No. 3 by the ITA. His victory in the finals against Ohio State's Koniecko was a rematch of Aubone's second-round match at the NCAA Championships which he lost in three sets.

"I beat some really good players," Aubone said. "If I was going to win the tournament I knew I was going to have to beat people I hadn't beaten before."

"I'm really proud of what he's accomplished," FSU head coach Dwayne Hultquist said. "And to do it beating some people he had never won against was a great accomplishment."

Aubone now turns his focus on this weeks Futures event in Joplin, Mo. He will also team with Seminole newcomer Vahid Mirzadeh in doubles. Mirzadeh won the Tampa Futures doubles crown earlier this summer with partner Adam Fass.

"It gives me confidence that I know I'm playing well," Aubone said. "Hopefully I can carry this momentum into the fall."
