FSU Soccer To Be Honored With Torch Lighting Thursday Evening

March 26, 2008

Tallahassee, Fla. - After wrapping up the finest season in school history, which included a berth in its first ever national championship game, Florida State University is honoring the women's soccer team with a torch lighting ceremony at the Unconquered Statue on Thursday, March 27 at 8:00 p.m.

Fans are encouraged to come out and celebrate with the women's soccer team as they are honored for an unforgettable season! Following the team's annual banquet, players and coaches will be on hand to take pictures and sign autographs at approximately 7:45 p.m.

Success has become synonymous with Florida State soccer. This past year the Seminoles became just the ninth school in NCAA history to appear in three consecutive national semifinals and are just one of two schools to appear in four of the last five College Cups.

In 2007, Florida State advanced to the national championship game following a 3-2 victory over Notre Dame, avenging last season's 2-1 semifinal loss to the Irish in Cary, N.C. Mami Yamaguchi, Sanna Talonen and Amanda DaCosta each scored a goal and an assist against the Fighting Irish in College Station, Texas to lead the Seminoles to their first championship final in school history.
